A day out in Normandy by helicopter
Honfleur in Normandy is less than an hour from central London by helicopter and offers a fabulous option if you are looking for a special day out, or a weekend escape. The historic old town of Honfleur is perhaps best known for its picturesque harbour, surrounded by houses with slate covered frontages. It has forever been a favourite haunt of artists and spawned the “ecole de Honfleur”, part of the Impressionist movement, and boasting among its members Gustave Courbet and Claude Monet.
The first written record of the town can be dated to 1027 and for the last thousand years the town has played a prominent part in both the military and commercial history of Europe. Its sheltered harbour and position at the estuary of one of France’s principal rivers, the Seine, has made it a strategic port for both trade and during times of war.
Many a satisfying hour can be spent exploring the numerous historic sites and excellent museums that the town has to offer.
