The annual film festival in Cannes is known for showcasing some lesser known films and their directors, as well as giving an early indication of who the front runners might be for that year’s Oscars. The release of the festival line up is always a hotly anticipated event and the exposure gained by some of the smaller releases can catapult the directors and actors firmly into the big time.

A playground for the rich and famous

The Côte d’Azur has been a benchmark for chic elegance and style for over a hundred years. In it’s heyday of the 1950s and 60s, it was a magnet for film stars, formula one drivers and Hollywood A listers.

The Côte d’Azur, and Cannes itself, retains much of the charm, sophistication and elegance from this period. It remains a hugely popular destination.

The Palme d’Or

The Cannes Film Festival can trace its history back over 70 years and is an important showcase for European films. The prize for the best film, the Palme d’Or, is much sought after and highly regarded by those in the film industry.
