An airfield steeped in historychallenger850

Le Bourget was Paris’ first and indeed only airfield until the opening of Orly in 1932. On 21st May 1927 it witnessed the arrival of Charles Lindbergh from New York, aboard his purpose built monoplane the Spirit of St Louis. His arrival marked the culmination of the first non-stop transatlantic flight, a distance of over 3,600 miles.

Other notable events at Le Bourget included the arrival in June of 1940 of Adolf Hitler and Albert Speer for their first and only tour of Paris. Later, in 1961, at the height of the Cold War, the famous Soviet ballet dancer Rudolf Nureyev defected to the West.

Moving on to the current day, every second year Le Bourget plays host to the Paris Air Show, the oldest and still one of the biggest and most important events for the aerospace industry.
